Scouter Phil returned for his final year as Winter Camp Chief with the Area "Yukon Gold Rush" Winter Camp. As with the past few years, the event was held at the Blue Heron side of the Blue Springs Scout Reserve. This year we took the 18th Burlington Pathfinders under our wing and hosted them for the icy weekend, after first giving them a winter equipment demo at their meeting. Scouts and Pathfinders had a chance to test their winter camping skills, meet Scouts from around the city, and race a sled in the infamous cross country sled race (which once again saw the return of our rebuilt sled M*A*F*U).
This year, our Troop had 7 seasoned winter campers out for the event, matching the numbers from our guest Pathfinder Unit. Cold, but decent weather and lots of snow made it a fun weekend for everyone. Saturday night was a bit chilly, with the barometer dropping to close to -30șC! The Saturday evening toboggan races played havoc with poor M*A*F*U and our sled was once again busted into an uncountable number of bitty pieces. However, anything is fixable....
