Adventure On The Ottawa - Part 1
June 28 - July 2, 2003 - Gatineau Park

Ottawa Trip Scout Report
Report by: Scouts John G. and Alex S.

And so it began..........The trip to Ottawa was in ways more interesting than the camp itself. Some of us had to stop on the way up. 15th Burlington's trailer had a defect. The bolts on the trailer were the wrong way around. As a result, the bolts were rubbing against the tire, which eventually burst one of the tires. Scouter Don and Scouter Graham stopped at the mall for around 3 hours to get the trailer fixed. The kids certainly enjoyed, I mean they got 3 hours at the mall and free food. Besides, considering they had all the food and the equipment, I figure it was Scouter Bill who was lost.

When we eventually got to Gatineau park, the other group of people who had already been at the park for several hours, celebrated as their companions arrived with their tents. That was when we all heard the rumour that there was a bear in camp. We soon found out that it was no rumour.

The next day (Sunday), we went to a tour of the Parliament Buildings. We all enjoyed the sugar candies there. After that we went to the Museum of Civilization. It was great. We went and played in all of the kiddie exhibits. Then we all went to the IMAX theatre to watch a film on skydiving.

The next day,(Monday), was the day we went white water rafting. Several of us were scared to go white water and were afraid to fall out. It didn't help when the instructor told us that if we fell out during the rapids we would probably break a bone on the rocks. When we finally got to the rapids we were all happy until we saw the wetsuits! They were spandex. It took forever to get them on. The rapids were great fun and we all had lots of fun. The only other thought was that the rapids were too tame.
