Our very own Scouter Phil returned for another year as Camp Chief for the annual Area "Hawaiian" Winter Camp. This year's event was held at the Blue Heron side of the Blue Springs Scout Reserve. This year the event was host to over 250 participants, representing almost every Troop in the Area, plus guests from Toronto, Oakville, and Guiding. Scouts had a chance to test their winter camping skills, meet Scouts from around the city, and race a sled in the infamous cross country sled race (which once again saw the return of our sled M*A*F*U). Events included a compass pineapple hunt, shelter building, blind volleyball, first aid challenge, snowshoeing, "garbage bag" luge, and the infamous "Quadraplex Challenge"(including, ugh, bug eating).
This year, our Troop had 10 seasoned and eager participants out for the event. Fair weather and lots of snow made it a fun weekend for everyone. This year's crew placed 9th out of 19 in the sled race with a time of 17:36. Not bad considering the sled broke in some critical areas half way through the run, and had to be coxed to the finish. The damage to M*A*F*U was severe, but repairable. Don't worry fans, M*A*F*U will ride again....
