Camp Manitou, Planet Earth was the location for Co-Op Camp 2002, Co-Op in Space, our first camporee of the 2002/2003 Scouting year. Jointly organized by the Area and representatives from local Guiding for 24 years, Co-Op has grown to become the event of the Guiding / Scouting year. The program involves a Friday night Karaoke night, physical (active) activities during the day Saturday and a late Saturday evening with a dance (always a hit with the Troop) & movies. For this year's camp, the space theme lead to activities such as "Alien Stomp" and "To The Moon", as well as the evening movies Spaceballs and Galaxy Quest.
As always, Co-Op is a chance for members of the Troop, new and old, to spend a weekend together and get to know each other. In addition to most of the Scouts from the Troop, we were joined in the next site over by the Scouts of 2nd Strathcona, who would eventually join up with us in the weeks following the camp. As Camp Chief for this camp, Scouter Bill, 15th Burlington's former Troop Scouter, made sure the heavy rains from Friday during the day ended by the time the Troop arrived on site. The weekend turned into a beautiful, warm one, a bit of a rarity for Co-Op. With nearly 700 Scouts, Guides, and Leaders, this year's camp was one of the biggest ever.
With some new leaders, new Scouts, and a whole new Troop about to join us in our adventures, the 2002/2003 year was off to a flying start!!!!!
