This year marked the 25th straight year that groups from Burlington spent a week at the 5,000 acre Haliburton Scout Reserve. Once again, members from the East Burlington Scout Troop attended the popular Haliburton Composite Summer Camp. Scouts Cory, Andrew, Craig, Kris and John, as well as Venturers Kate and Erin attended the camp. Representing the leaders were 15th Burlington Troop Scouter Bill and 10th Burlington Troop Scouter Phil. Scouter Phil was scheduled to be Camp Chief. Activities included a hiking out trip up Pike's Peak (the highest point in the reserve) as well as canoeing, a water regatta, fishing derby, rifle and archery range activities, repelling and opportunities to develop new Scouting skills.
True to our "Be Prepared" nature, the week proved to have it's share of challenges. When a medical emergency forced Scouter Phil to depart early, Scouter Bill took over as Camp Chief. His first night as Camp Chief, he had to deal with a tornado warning which lead to our "battening down the hatches". Fortunately the tornado by-passed us. Then, mid-week a family emergency sent Scouter Bill home. Once again, the leadership team adapted and Scouter Cherilyn (a former Burlington Scouter now living in Ottawa) took over until Scouter Bill returned for the final day of camp.
Despite the challenges, for the Scouts it was another week of great memories.....
