Parent / Youth
May 24-26, 2002 - Rattlesnake Point Conservation Area
The annual Parent / Youth Weekend has become a popular tradition with the Troop. This year’s camp activity brought back one of the most talked about activities of last year. We returned to Rattlesnake Point this year for another crack at our Troop Specialty, rappelling. Rappelling is an adventure activity to introduce youth to the field of mountaineering. Burlington Scouting's rappelling program uses equipment, procedures and techniques designed for maximum safety of our novice participants, while still achieving maximum adventure, skill development and confidence.
While designed mainly around the Rappelling, we also offered alternative activities. The "On Rappel!" Scouting coordinator, Ron Currell also runs ascending and top rope climbing (like at a climbing wall) activities, for those that may not be ready to try rappelling. All the Scouts that attended tried at least one of the activities. Any Scout attempting at least one of the activities in our Troop earns our special Troop Specialty Challenge Badge!
