Our very own Scouter Phil was Camp Chief for this year's trip up to the Blue Heron side of the Blue Springs Scout Reserve for the annual District Winter Camp. Continuing the success of last year, the event was host to over 100 participants, representing almost every Troop in the District. This is THE winter Scouting event in Burlington! Scouts had a chance to test their winter camping skills, meet Scouts from around the city, and race a sled in the infamous cross country dog (Scout) sled race (which once again saw the return of our sled M*A*F*U). In honour of the Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah, it was a "Backwoods Olympics" themed-camp this year. Events included a biathlon (travois building and tennis ball toss, our event), snowshoeing, "garbage bag" luge, Nunavut Stick Toss, Snow Snakes, and the infamous "D.C.'s Challenge".
This year, our Troop had 6 seasoned and eager participants, plus 1 special guest from 21st Burlington. This year's crew tied for 1st place in the Tidy Camper Award competition (quite a long way from our last place finish at Co-op 2001) and came in an impressive 3rd place in the District-wide sled race against some stiff competition!!!! Go, M*A*F*U, Go!
