District Explorer Hike 2001
October, 2001 - Bruce Trail
We were invited this year by 13th & 27th Burlington to take part in their Fall Explorer Hike & Camp. The hike was an excellent opportunity for Scouts to experience hiking interesting terrain. On the hike we enjoyed amazing scenery, a challenging hike, serious no-trace camping, fun and good company. Our older Scouts wanting a bigger challenge were able to undertake a self-contained hike. The newer Scouts simply enjoyed an easier hike and learned by observing other Scouts hiking at higher levels.
The hike followed the Bruce Trail from Nottawasaga Bluffs Conservation Area, south of Collingwood, to Eden Shelter, near the village of Dunedin. This was a distance of about 11 km. The weather was great, and only once did we almost get lost! The hike was also important in that it introduced us to Scouter Liz, who has now joined 6th Burlington as a Scout Leader. It was Scouter Liz who suggested the shortcut which saved us some tired feet at the end of the hike.......
