District Soap Box Derby 2001
After nearly a decade absence, the Burlington District Scouting Soap Box Derby returned on Saturday May 5, 2001. The Derby was held on the grounds of Kelso Conservation Area in Milton. 17 home-made vehicles from 9 Scouting groups have entered this year's event. Groups built up their own vehicles around a common wheel and steering system supplied through the District. Participants were also required to wear helmets and have restraint systems on their "racers".
While the troop had not planned on entering this year, 2 Scouts wound up as "last minute" entries using the Cub Pack's Car. Scout Will was at the event as the Pack's "Kim", while Bryan was there watching his brother, a Cub, race in the rally. Since both Scouts and Scouter Bill were at Kelso, it was decided to have a Troop entry in the race. Since the event was a smash success, we're making plans to build and race our own car next year!
