  All-Section Winter Camp 2000

A Scout's Trip Report:

On Friday Jan 14 2000 - Sunday Jan 16 the 15th Burlington All-Sections Winter Camp was held at Camp Manitou north, way up north, of Guelph Line.  When we arrived Friday night at the camp, the roads were snow covered, so our Troop had to hike in all our equipment because we were not allowed to drive on the roads.  After we set up ground sheets and sleeping bags with the light of our lantern.  Our sleeping shelter looked very cozy.  Before bedding down for the night we all enjoyed a steamy hot cup of chocolate and cookies while our Scouter Bill gave us a talk on naphtha gas.  Then all of us changed into warm sleeping clothes, thermal socks and toques included.

Rising up Saturday morning, after a good breakfast we participated in survival exercises, then another meal was prepared.  Lunch was hot chunky soup to warm up our bodies for a great fun afternoon of tobogganing.  Going up and down that big hill of course gave us a good exercise workout in time for our special supper meal that had been prepared for Beavers and Cubs too.  A turkey dinner, ham, stuffing, potatoes, carrots, and cranberry sauce.  Yummy!  All groups enjoyed this meal inside a heated lodge where the Cubs and Beavers had been participating in the weekend.  After clean-up we had nighttime tobogganing fun for a little while.  Then it was time for Scout's Own campfire with Beavers and Cubs too.  We did skits, cheers, and songs.  Then our group went back to our campsite for our Mug Up and bedtime again.

Rising up Sunday morning early to make breakfast, pack up our personal gear, and our campsite.  We hiked over to the heated lodge again.  There was still lunch to make for all before going home, clean up the lodge, and pack the cars with stuff.  Scouter Bill presented all who attended this camp with a crest with a picture of snow shoes.  After all, we did a lot of walking in the snow to our camp.  We just didn't have snow shoes.  It was windy and cold, my face got burnt, but I had a really good time.
